HCSSiM was by far the most influential experience I have ever had. It helped me develop and grow significantly not only in mathematics, but also personally. HCSSiM gave me a confidence to explore mathematics individually and collaboratively, opening doors for me in upper level mathematics I wouldn't have believed were possible. Even years later, I still have a wonderful community of friends and great mathematicians begun at Hampshire College. It also introduced me to the true beauty in mathematics, which I still love and continuously explore. It is a remarkable program, and has created a true home for me in the math community. Attending HCSSiM was the best decision I ever made. And of course, it was a lot of fun!

HCSSiM has been one of the most influential experiences in my life, both mathematically and personally. I learned and grew in ways I couldn't have imagined. It opened my eyes to whole branches of mathematics I'd never known of, and it introduced me to an unforgettable group of people.
I was a little nervous at the beginning, because I was both a girl and a year younger than most other students. But I quickly realized that no one there really cared about gender or age. We were all there to learn math and have fun—your ideas and your passion were way more important than anything else.

The summers I spent at HCSSiM were, to that point, the best in my life. I met fascinating people from all over the country and even the world, and discovered a new way of thinking about mathematics. The experience of discovering mathematics as a process rather than being lectured about it inspired a love for the subject that stays with me to this day. Beyond just the excellent mathematics you'll do at HCSSiM, though, you'll be encouraged to explore other areas as well - students organize their own informal classes on everything from knitting to juggling to dancing and beyond. The friendships you make over the summer will last a lifetime, and the experiences will be memorable for years to come. If you've ever felt a little out of place because you wake up in the morning and the first thing you do is factor the day's date, then you should apply to HCSSiM.

More than just the knowledge I gained in class, HCSSiM has taught me a
whole new way of viewing and learning math. Matt Redmond, '08
Though I have only been here for slightly longer than two weeks, I've
already managed to learn more math than I did in the first two years of high school. Mika Sumida, '08
I've never been around so many people who love math as much as I do, and It's great. Nobody's afraid to be who they are. And everyone's a bit
eccentric, in a very good sense of the word. The people here are just interesting and exhilarating to be around. Tim Reynolds, '07
The skills and the practice I gained here will extend to math contests
and so much farther...HCSSiM has helped me to understand what math really is about. | Emily Berger, '06
Math makes me happier than anything else, and I don't think it would
give me the same pleasure had I not experienced HCSSiM. Azi Horowitz, '05, '06
Here I was encouraged to think creatively, appreciate the beauty of
mathematics, but most importantly discover concepts for myself. Hannah Alpert, '04, '05, '06
HCSSiM helped me build a rock-solid base for my mathematical education. I left the program feeling unstoppable, completely prepared to dive into
whatever math would present itself next. Louis Wasserman, '06
I was drawn into a tightly knit network of math-crazed weirdos with a
fondness for Ultimate Frisbee, and I was happier than I had ever been in my life. |
